Stealing The Dreams Of Our Children

Obama is still not yet President but I find I am already weary of hearing him talk. He speaks in these carefully parsed empty phrases with a poetic lilt of the student trying to impress his Harvard political science professor that he can give a mean speech. Obama seems to me to be like a little kid yelling for mom to “look at me, look at me,” as I do headstands…neat huh?

Today he essentially gave us Carter’s Malaise speech but with clipped Ivy League intonations instead of the peanut farmer southern drawl.

And our nation could lose the competitive edge that has served as a foundation for our strength and standing in the world.
In short, a bad situation could become dramatically worse.

Really? Thanks we and the economy need more dark clouds.

And then: We arrived at this point due to an era of profound irresponsibility that stretched from corporate boardrooms to the halls of power in Washington, DC. For years, too many Wall Street executives made imprudent and dangerous decisions, seeking profits with too little regard for risk, too little regulatory scrutiny, and too little accountability. Banks made loans without concern for whether borrowers could repay them, and some borrowers took advantage of cheap credit to take on debt they couldn't afford.

You left out that it was Politicians from your party that forced those banks to make bad loans in order to keep buying votes from the fiscally undisciplined that make up a majority of YOUR party.

And then: Politicians spent taxpayer money without wisdom or discipline, and too often focused on scoring political points instead of the problems they were sent here to solve. The result has been a devastating loss of trust and confidence in our economy, our financial markets, and our government.

So the answer is to again entrust these same politicians to spend simply astronomical sums of the taxpayer’s money, in hopes of what? They will suddenly discover a hidden morality they never exhibited before? Or will we discover that Gov Blagojevich is an atypical Chicago Pol? Do you think printing money is any answer at all? How is that different if I XEROX some hundred dollar bills to pay off my credit cards? Because you are the government it somehow works? Money does not become worthless if you just endlessly print more? Do you know why chickens are cheaper than minks, why gold is more valuable then cement?

And then: It's a plan that represents not just new policy, but a whole new approach to meeting our most urgent challenges. For if we hope to end this crisis, we must end the culture of anything goes that helped create it - and this change must begin in Washington. It is time to trade old habits for a new spirit of responsibility. It is time to finally change the ways of Washington so that we can set a new and better course for America.

Are you actually serious? Tell me this is not a SNL skit? Change will emanate from Washington? Sure and Robert Byrd was not a leader of the KKK, and Nancy Pelosi is bi-partisan.

And then: There is no doubt that the cost of this plan will be considerable. It will certainly add to the budget deficit in the short-term. But equally certain are the consequences of doing too little or nothing at all, for that will lead to an even greater deficit of jobs, incomes, and confidence in our economy. It is true that we cannot depend on government alone to create jobs or long-term growth, but at this particular moment, only government can provide the short-term boost necessary to lift us from a recession this deep and severe. Only government can break the vicious cycles that are crippling our economy - where a lack of spending leads to lost jobs which leads to even less spending; where an inability to lend and borrow stops growth and leads to even less credit.

Like we will ever again even attempt to control spending, like the chance of paying off the national debt in anything less than a thousand years is like finding a moderate Muslim in that same time frame.

Only Government can solve a problem that it has carefully created for over 20 years? Only Government can print money is what you meant to say, right? I will tell you what will solve our problem. The same thing that American families are learning; burn the credit cards, work two jobs to pay off all debt, no more deficit spending, we do not live in the future, we must stop our time travel to steal the money of the future, to steal the prosperity and dreams of our kids and grand kids.

The only thing that will resolve this crisis is if Americans turn from the idolatry of listening to empty cover-their-own-ass-first politicians and turn to God in prayer and humility and ask for His help in this time of need. Government has been morally bankrupt for decades, and this finally becomes illuminated in the God given light of the fiscal bankruptcy of our government.

America will survive, and go on to greater heights but it will be in spite of Government, not because of Government. And not because of those that offered false hope to gain power, who then strip away that hope in carefully crafted speeches to give themselves the cushion of time they need to consolidate that power.
